Clyde Heritage Flavours and Spring Adventures

Tucked beside the Clutha Mata-au River, Clyde is a charming Central Otago town where history, great food, wine and  outdoor adventure come together. In spring, the surrounding landscape bursts into life, making it a wonderful time to  explore the town and its scenic trails.

Step Back in Time

Clyde’s beautifully preserved heritage buildings, boutique shops and welcoming cafés give the town a relaxed, old-world  character. Take your time wandering the historic streets, browse the local galleries and shops, or settle in for a coffee and  watch the world go by.

Visit Clyde Dam

Just a short drive from town, Clyde Dam is an impressive sight and an important part of Central Otago’s landscape.  Rising 102 metres above the Clutha Mata-au River, it is New Zealand’s third-largest hydroelectric dam and created Lake  Dunstan, stretching from Clyde towards Cromwell.

Take the time to enjoy the views across the lake and surrounding mountains, particularly beautiful in spring when the  countryside begins to turn green. The dam also provides a great starting point for exploring the wider Central Otago  region and its many walking and cycling opportunities.

For a memorable stay, Olivers combines historic charm with exceptional food and accommodation. Built in 1869 by  merchant Benjamin Naylor, the building is recognised as one of Otago’s significant heritage properties and has a Category  1 classification from Heritage New Zealand.
