While biking dominates in summer, the trail’s route passes several geosites that can be enjoyed through short, easy walks. These stops are ideal for travellers wanting to break up a drive and spend time in the landscape rather than rushing through it.
The Lake Ōhau section of the trail offers a gentle 30–45-minute lakeside walk with alpine views, easily accessed directly from the route. Near Duntroon, a short 10-minute detour off the trail will take you to Elephant Rocks, one of the most memorable stops in the region.
