Out and About South Island

Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre

In Marlborough, aviation history isn’t simply displayed, it comes vividly to life.

At the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre in Blenheim, two world-class exhibitions transport visitors into the extraordinary stories of the men  and women who pushed the boundaries of flight. Knights of the Sky showcases a remarkable First World War collection, brought to life through cinematic dioramas created by WingNut Films, with mannequins by Wētā Workshop. Alongside rare aircraft and memorabilia are  deeply personal stories, including items belonging to legendary German flying ace Manfred von Richthofen, the “Red Baron”.

The story continues in Dangerous Skies, exploring aviation during the Second World War with iconic aircraft including the De Havilland  Mosquito and P-40 Kittyhawk, alongside the immersive Stalingrad Experience. And next Easter, history takes to the skies again. From 26–28  March 2027, Classic Fighters returns to Omaka Aerodrome, combining rare heritage aircraft  with dramatic flying displays, classic cars,  music and pyrotechnics. It’s a spectacular weekend for aviation enthusiasts, families and anyone who enjoys a great show.

Make Omaka part of your Marlborough adventure, where vineyards, aviation heritage and unforgettable experiences come together.

The museum is open daily until 5pm.
