Polynesian Spa

Embrace Rotorua’s Healing Heritage

In the heart of Rotorua’s captivating geothermal landscape, Polynesian Spa offers a timeless mineral bathing experience on the tranquil  shores of Lake Rotorua. Recognized globally as one of the world’s Top 10 spas, Polynesian Spa has welcomed guests from across New  Zealand and around the world for over 50 years. Established on a site that dates back to the 1800s, where New Zealand’s first bathing houses
allowed visitors to “take the waters,” the spa remains a unique blend of historical charm and modern comfort.

Polynesian Spa channels its geothermal surroundings into 28 mineral pools fed by two natural springs. The acidic Priest Spring, named after  a priest whose ailments were eased by its waters in 1878, is rich in sulfur and renowned for relieving muscle tension and soothing aches. In  contrast, the alkaline Rachel Spring, also known as Te Whangapipiro, softens the skin and is celebrated for its youthful effects, earning it a  reputation as a “fountain of youth.”

Beyond mineral bathing, Polynesian Spa provides a therapeutic spa menu with signature geothermal treatments, including its unique Aix spa  therapies. These indulgent water-based treatments involve massage techniques applied under warm mineral showers, creating a deeply  relaxing experience that renews both body and spirit. Other favorites include body polishes, mud massages, facials, and Himalayan salt  scrubs, all beginning with a soak to amplify the benefits of each therapy. The lakeside setting further enriches the experience, with geothermal steam drifting across Sulphur Bay, creating a serene environment perfect for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Polynesian Spa’s wellness offerings go beyond bathing, with yoga, meditation, and sound healing classes tailored for individuals and groups  alike. The onsite 88RA Cafe offers deliciously prepared meals, fresh juices, and local favorites, making it easy for guests to enjoy a healthy  treat or meal while visiting. Additionally, the gift shop features premium spa products and locally inspired items, allowing guests to take a  piece of Polynesian Spa’s experience home.

Open late every night until 11 pm, Polynesian Spa welcomes guests 7 days a week, inviting everyone to unwind and restore at their own pace.  As Polynesian Spa continues to evolve, it stays true to its roots, preserving the legacy of its geothermal springs and welcoming guests to  experience one of New Zealand’s most treasured wellness destinations.
